BIO:

Sunshine [at Night] is the live electronic project of Brandon “Sunshine” Esteves, a New England-based artist known for fully improvised performances using analog synthesizers, sequencers, vocals, and effects. Drawing inspiration from 1990s rave culture, the project moves fluidly through dub, techno, house, and breakbeats, creating energetic, immersive sets that are never pre-recorded and never repeated. Each performance is a moment in time, shaped by the room, the audience, and the instruments themselves.

Since 2022, Sunshine has toured extensively as a solo artist, performing at over a dozen music festivals, warehouse raves, and curating immersive sound experiences. He has been recognized with multiple local awards for electronic music and featured in regional press as well as international synthesizer podcasts and interviews. His performances have earned a reputation for both technical skill and emotional resonance, bridging the gap between underground grit and expansive sonic atmospheres.

Beyond performance, Sunshine is a committed community organizer and collaborator. He has founded multiple collectives in Massachusetts and Brooklyn, operates a local music studio supporting emerging artists, and is a resident member of Fractaltribe, Patchwork Boston, and the Golden Shrimp Guild. With a background in multiple instruments and a deep understanding of electronic sound, Sunshine [at Night] offers a versatile and immersive experience adaptable to clubs, festivals, sound system events, and transformational gatherings alike.

HISTORY:

Sunshine [at Night] began mid-2013 in the kava bars of Ithaca, NY and was named by the bar’s owner, Avi. Each weekly performance focused on creating ambient soundscapes with a hip-hop backbone by utilizing various guitar techniques, effect pedals, loopers, and audio mixers in untraditional ways. Take a listen to the old YouTube Playlist Here.

After a few years of studying experimental improvisation at both Cornell University and Ithaca College, Sunshine experienced his first techno-themed party via Microtones and realized the potential for electronic improvisation within a party atmosphere. Microtones were nice enough to have The Sunshine Group [Mach 2] play a set in 2018, but it became clear that techno and house were not so simple to create. The performance was less-than stellar.

Sunshine has since been on a mission to create “proper” techno and house by relying on the use of analogue synthesizers, sequencers, and samplers to create sounds inspired raves of the late-1990s. Current live performances consist heavily upon keyboard playing, finger drumming, live singing, and effect manipulation.

Sunshine [at Night] now serves as a reminder that electronic music can be created by humans with no need for DJs - music on the spot - to bring out the fullness of the soul and vibe of the room.
