BIO:

Sunshine [at Night] is one of Brandon “Sunshine” Esteves’ many musical projects centered around improvisation, focusing this time on live electronic music performances. Inspired by the raving sounds of the 1990s, this project finds itself revolving around acidic grooves, techno, deep/swinging house, and breakbeats. All performances are created live with analog synthesizers, sequencers, vocals, loopers, and effects, and do not contain any pre-prepared loops, tracks, or sequences.

Along with musical performance, Sunshine has attempted to rekindle an underground music scene in Central Massachusetts, assisting him in securing awards for Best Electronica Act in Worcester in for the past 3 years. Through the creation of W.A.R.P. (Worcester Audio Revival Productions) in late 2022, Sunshine has led central Mass. by not only booking underground electronic music events at clubs, but also by booking new local acts and throwing one of the first warehouse raves the area has seen in many years.

Through a deep appreciation for and immersion within the electronic music scene, Sunshine [at Night] is a sure way to get that underground sound while also clearly having a unique tone that only Sunshine can create. Each performance is entirely unique and is influenced by the promoter, the other acts, the venue, and [of course] the audience.

HISTORY:

Sunshine [at Night] began mid-2013 in the kava bars of Ithaca, NY and was named by the bar’s owner, Avi. Each weekly performance focused on creating ambient soundscapes with a hip-hop backbone by utilizing various guitar techniques, effect pedals, loopers, and audio mixers in untraditional ways. Take a listen to the old YouTube Playlist Here.

After a few years of studying experimental improvisation at both Cornell University and Ithaca College, Sunshine experienced his first techno-themed party via Microtones and realized the potential for electronic improvisation within a party atmosphere. Microtones were nice enough to have The Sunshine Group [Mach 2] play a set in 2018, but it became clear that techno and house were not so simple to create. The performance was less-than stellar.

Sunshine has since been on a mission to create “proper” techno and house by relying on the use of analogue synthesizers, sequencers, and samplers to create sounds inspired raves of the late-1990s. Current live performances consist heavily upon keyboard playing, finger drumming, live singing, and effect manipulation.

Sunshine [at Night] now serves as a reminder that electronic music can be created by humans with no need for DJs - music on the spot - to bring out the fullness of the soul and vibe of the room.
